Only plays proprietary video format Aug 17, 2010
By Howie The description is inaccurate since you get the impression that it will actually play a variety of different video formats. Actually, you have to convert all common video formats to AMV, which is a Chinese version of AVI. The player has the conversion software as firmware, or you can download it from the VisualLand website. Otherwise, VisualLand media players are excellent values for the money. == UPDATE Okay, my above post is totally wrong. It was based on information I got from the manufacturer's website, where there is an obvious disconnect between their engineers and designers (top notch) and their packaging and support team (confused). I have now been playing with the product for a couple of hours, and can report that I love it, but have found a bunch of problems with the specs. It immediately came up on my XP system as an external drive, although Windows popped up a "may not work" message. It will play wmv, mpg, and some flv files. The sample files in memory were wmv and flv, and I have played my own files in wmv and mpg format with no problem. Some of my flv files play, but most don't. But, my avi and mp4 video files do not play. All mp4's come up with a format error, as do some avi's. One of my avi's did start to play, but exhibited a strange 1-second-play, 3-seconds-freeze pattern, with continuous audio. This is especially odd, since two other VisualLand models, the V-Core and V-Touch, play only avi. I know that there are many format variations within each type, so you may have different results. None of their support materials -- the box, the printed manual, the pdf in memory, or stuff on their website -- correctly identify the video formats the V-Sport will play. The default brightness is set to 3 on a 5-level scale, which will cause you to think it's dim when you first turn it on. The max brightness setting seems satisfactory to me, although it may effect battery life. I would have loved it if the V-Sport played all my flv's, but I'm happy that it plays wmv and mpg. That meets my needs, and will only require conversion for a minor portion of my programs. I would now give it 5's with one 3 in whatever category would cover the bad documentation.

Visual Land V-Sport Media Player Oct 14, 2010
By Steve I was looking for a small portable media player that I could use with video glasses while traveling. The choices were quite limited, since I needed the TV out to use with the video glasses and I didn't want to carry my collection of DVD's and a DVD player. I have a pair of Myvu Crystal video glasses that I wanted to use with this player.
This is a surprisingly light, but rather well built unit that does what I wanted. It is better looking than I expected from the pictures.
I don't know how long the internal battery lasts. I have not exhausted the internal rechargable battery, since I have a Tekeon USB charger that holds standard AA cells. I use the low self discharge rechargable cells in it and can get more run time on this than I need.
I have come to appreciate this player more as I have experemented with it. Since my video glasses are 640 x 480 resolution, I was trying to find a media format that would give me small file size and work on this player. The player does play a number of file formats, but I couldn't get the higher resolution files to sync the audio correctly. I settled on 320 x 240 flv (flash) files with 758K video bit rate and 64K audio bit rate that were converted by the freeware "Any Video Converter" from high quality DVD rips. The audio on these always sync'd with the video. The unit works well with the micro SD cards. I found I can get about 3 movies on a 2GB card. The videos actually look good on the unit's screen and better than I expected on the higher resolution video glasses. As a previous reviewer stated, you probably want to go into the settings and increase the screen brightness setting to 5 if you want to use the built in screen. When using the TV out function, the built in screen blanks to conserve battery life.
This is not a touch screen unit. I prefer not to have a touch screen so I don't have to get fingerprints all over the screen and can get a better image to watch. The buttons work well and are quite easy to use.
I did not buy this to use as an audio player and have not put any audio files on it, so I can't say much about that.
Overall, I am quite pleased with this unit. I thought I might have to get a video camera to get what I wanted, but this is smaller and lighter whith smaller file size. I am seriously considering getting another one to use as a back up or for use if my wife is traveling with me.

Great gadget to keep my 3 year old occupied when out for dinner! Mar 29, 2011
By Cathy Simmons I've enjoyed playing with this multimedia player. So far I've loaded a few songs and a lot of video to this. I bought it to entertain my son (3 years old) when we go out to dinner or anywhere that we may have to wait. He was using my husband's or my phone to watch YouTube videos. I downloaded some of his favorites via free software that I found on-line, and converted it to mp4 format. It was very easy. Uploading has been very simple! I haven't been able to get the flash videos to play on it but I haven't spent too much time looking at the details of the files. The support has been great. I sent them an e-mail to say that I couldn't get the flv files to play and within a few days was told that the files must be "640x480 / 30fps / 2500kbps or less." I also sent them e-mail that I hadn't gotten a stand for my player. A few weeks later they sent one in the mail... no charge to me! The only complaint is that it doesn't power on in the same number of seconds every time, but it has always worked.

A piece of junk!! Mar 12, 2011
By SUSAN77 I bought the first one and the first day I opened it, the screen worked fine. A couple of minutes later the screen was just lines. Returned and ordered another one. Screen did the same thing. It feels cheap, and works cheap too. What are the odds that I get 2 in a row that dont work. Dont waste your time or money on this! Its worthless!

It's a weirdo, but I love it. Jan 01, 2011
By Neko So it's probably really early to say too much, but here. My first thought was "generic much." It gave me some trouble at first- in the music department. All of the songs were just scrambled and "messy". The names were even still in their file names [ex: BUCK_TICK_Love_Letter_fetchmp3 or 01. All Me.] Then I realized that everything has to be done manually. Yes, if you're anal with your music order like I am, then you'll need to rename the song as its actual name. Why does it do this? My guess is because it functions as an actual flash drive. But once you understand this issue, it really isn't that bad. Everything is well in the end. For some reason, the folders tend to merge. All of my folders have the other folders inside of them. Once again, this isn't really a problem. Everything is still nicely organized. My ebooks seem to only show one chapter, but this can easily be fixed by going to the original on your PC; copy and paste it into "notepad" and save it [it can only read txt.files]. The video is great as far as I know. It plays FLV, WMV, and AVI. Comes with 8 different backgrounds you can choose from. All of them are pretty snazzy [no it doesn't have the image that it is displayed with]. Radio doesn't seem to work at all. I don't listen to the radio, so I'm fine with it
Biggest problem: It doesn't keep time. If you set it, the time will stay the exact same. Set it for 8:00, five hours later, it still says 8:00. It also doesn't keep the date [at first I thought it did]
Greatest Aspect: It plays on flat screens :D. You can hook it up to your flat screen TV and the TV becomes a giant mp3 player. Need I really say more? One thing; everything that appears on the teli may or may not still look as great as it does on the player.
I suppose that's all I have to say about this little guy. It portrays beautiful colors, the size is perfect [about 4in, covers a good portion of my hand], great video playback, pretty good sound without headphones, has 7.5GB. If you're feeling tight on money or you just don't want to spend much and you don't mind doing a little extra work, then I would recommend this to you. [I've had it for just about 2 days I guess. It's become pretty precious to me.
One last thing. I think the on/off switches are a bit redundant. I would definitely read the manual before going in head first so that you don't misunderstand anything. Hope this eases your experience if you do decide to get this mp3 player ^_^. Sorry if I gave mixed feelings, but I was more so just telling the facts.
~~~~ Update: It's been about eight months now and unfortunately, I just ordered a new mp3 player. The Visual Land is still okay... but it has one problem, for me at least. I'll still use it for its other assets, but the left audio out is... well out. It happened just a couple to a few months after I got it. I was able to hear out of both sides as long as I pushed the little part of the headphones that plugs in a certain way, but it just totally failed on me a few weeks ago. So yes, it's still good for photos and watching movies on the screen [as far as I know] but I would like to hear my music in both ears, which is why I bought a new one. This new mp3 player is not from visual land.
