    5Great marine radio  Nov 22, 2009 By R. Nelson
I put this in my boat last summer and it has been a great radio, I would highly recommend this radio if you are looking for a nice marine radio. I paired this with a nice set of JBL speakers and the sound is awesome. I have several other more expensive radios and this one is every bit as nice. I use this radio with my MP3 players, IPOD etc and it works perfectly. I have also burned MP3s to a cd and it works well with that too.

    2Faceplate buttons stopped working  Jul 07, 2011 By Johan10
I installed the CDX-M30 radio on my Pontoon boat and it worked fine for the first year. But this year when I got the boat out of storage, the faceplate buttons don't work, so I can only operate the radio using the remote control. The Sony repair references want over $100 for a flat rate repair. I was given the Sony Direct Parts Accessory Center (DPAC) to call at 1-800-488-7669, but they do not offer a service manual for sale so I can't fix it myself. I was hoping to avoid radio problems by purchasing a Marine grade radio with conformal coated circuit boards. I was first very pleased with the radio and the quality of the sound, especially when using iPod and CDs, but now I'm very disappointed. Anyone find a fix for this problem? I've seen a few other reviews with faceplate button problems which leads me to believe there is a design flaw with this radio.

5SONY DOES IT AGAIN  Jul 06, 2010 By Paul R. Desroches Sr. "Virginia Ragtopper"
Over the years, Sony has proven itself over and over as a manufacturer of the most innovative, well-engineered, excellent performing electronic devices of all kinds. This unit is no exception to that legacy. with more than ample power, and a highly sensitive tuner section, and a pivoting door to access cd player, detachable faceplate, the sony CDXM30 is a great performer. I like to control the sound levels, and this unit allows that, or if you're not into it, you can choose from several preset equalizer settings. And unlike some equipment, these presets sound very different from one another. The auto tuning function is also a great time saver, tuning to the strongest signals on the band making fast access to a variety of stations. The tuner sensitvity is excellent, pulling in many more stations than the previous unit this replaces. Sound output quality is excellent with low distortion and ample power, and if you're into really big power, the unit features a line out to a power amplifier capability which would satisfy the most power hungry types. Also, it is XM satellite "ready", and also HD Radio "ready", if the user desires he can purchase modules to fulfill those functions and make this quite the high tech package. But even without those bells & whistles the receiver is a solid performer.

One of the reasons I went with this is because it interfaces with Ipods but also with MP3-encoded cd's, which I have made for myself. So, that was a function I had desired. The included remote is o.k., but it would be better to have radio signal vs the usual line-of-sight infra-red remote functionality. This means it only works if you can point it directly at the base unit. It also sports an auxillary input socket which can be used to receive and playback any type of audio device.

So, really, what more can one ask, and for the price I paid it's a very solid value, in my opinion.

One small caveat to me is the rather flimsy appearing pivoting connection of the faceplate to the unit body. I would recommend using extreme care when handling/installing/removing the faceplace. It would appear to be easily damaged, although it has held up so far after a few weeks with multiple removals.

5Good vaule for the money  Jan 09, 2011 By Once burned twice shy
We love this marine stereo, installed in the marine stereo mount, no problem, great color coding on the wiring. Good sound for an open boat, great value. Glad we purchased this name brand unit, no regrets here. CDs workin even in the rolling waves.
