4Great for the price  May 19, 2010 By Theresa S
I bought this to relpace an older, 6 mp camera, and it is great. picture clarity is awesome, battery life seems to be very good, and it is EASY to use. The camera has more optical zoom than I have ever seen on a camera its size, and a great macro setting. I can get clear and defined product images very up close an personal. I can also get great pictures of my kids, and it is so easy that i can pass the camera off and anyone can click and shoot a great picture.

The camera also has HD video recording, and it is great. I have been needing to make some videos for my small business, and this will work nicely. It will also be great to catch family events on, including when my children meet their new sibling within the next few days.

the only thing I would make special note of is that the camera does not have as many manual settings as I am used to. no manual focus, in particulr. but, since it does so good a job of the auto focus, I haven not found that to be an issue.

overall, I highly reccomend this camera to anyone looking for a new personal or easy to use small business camera.

1A real battery drain - Olympus Stylus 7040  Jan 03, 2011 By Amazon Shopper
This is my 6th Olympus camera (4th digital one), so I am quite an Olympus fan. I bought the Stylus 7040 for its compact size, wide angle, and HD video capability. The Stylus 7040 is by far less intuitive than all previous digital cameras I'e owned(FE-280, Camedia C-60, and D-490). I've used it at 4 parties, 1 vacation and 2 business trips in the past 2 months, and I am still struggling with learning the settings. Worst is I am highly disappointed with the poor battery life, even in power save mode - which then becomes a nuisance because it is so slow to come back on. I even turned it down to 8M and 5M size. On average, I get 20-30 shots per battery charge! Maybe I should consult a dealer to see if this is normal or the camera is defective. It takes decent pictures, and wide angle is good for group pictures.

5You can't beat this value!  Jul 23, 2011 By Rosemary
I still can't believe what a great little camera this is, which I purchased for under $100 through Amazon! You just can't go wrong! So easy to use; crisp photos, macro is great! So many people have commented on the quality of photos I have taken. I just slip it into my pocket and go! I'm not too crazy about the ib software..some of the print was impossible to read (looks like chicken-scratch to me); and, there were a few other glitches. But, my computer isn't the latest and greatest. I contacted Olympus re: the software and the technician with whom I spoke was very responsive, informed, patient, efficient. Great service. For now, I've opted to use an earlier version of the software. But, you know: every time I look at this little camera, I smile! That's your answer...

5Olympus 7040 digital camera...  Oct 13, 2011 By maccafan "Beatlemaniac/Paul McCartney Fan"
This is a really nice camera and it does all that the description claims. You do need to charge the battery when you first get it and that was the hardest part for me...I'm impatient and I wanted to try it out! :- Once the battery was charged, though, the camera works really well and all the menus are easy to understand. I love the photos I've taken. The videos are very crisp and clear indoors or out. There are many settings to choose from and I just recently tried out the panorama option...it's fun! Overall, I'd heartily recommend this camera to anyone who wants one easy to use but with a lot of options. The quality of the photos is remarkable and the HD videos are also great. I am totally enjoying mine!

1Stopped working after the first time I recharged it.  May 12, 2011 By Lorie Conley
Used the camera once till the battery ran down. It seemed to work fine. Then I plugged it in to recharge it last night so that we could use it for a school event today. The light came on indicating that it was charging. When I got it off the charger this morning the light was out, so I thought that it was charged. When I tried to turn it on, it would not come on. I tried plugging it in a different outlet to see if something had been wrong with the one I used, nothing happened. Then I tried charging it on the computer. Still nothing. So, I am not sure if it is actually the camera, the battery or the charger that is having problems.

I had an older model of the Olympus Stylus that I really liked, so that is why I got this one. I love the size, but did not get to use it enough to tell if I like anything else about it. Once I get my refund I am going to try ordering another one to see if I have any better luck with it. Hopefully it was just something about this one that was defective and not all of them.
