Works Reasonably Well. Sound Quality Could Be Better. Jan 10, 2009
By musicmanblue1975 This device comes in handy if you have a long drive and want to load hours worth of MP3s or WMAs to listen to on the road. You'll get better quality from an iPod with a BlueTooth interface into your car's stereo system, but for those of us with older cars and tighter budgets, this device comes in handy.
My biggest complaint is the sound quality. The signal is broadcast by FM, which of course offers poor quality sound compared to a digital transmission from CD or iPod straight to your stereo. Furthermore, you can pick up interference from radio stations on neighboring frequencies, and the player itself I think suffers from a lack of audio fidelity. The end result is comparable to an AM radio broadcast (or an FM broadcast where you're not getting a perfect signal).
It's not so noticeable over the noise of car traveling at high speeds on the freeway, but if you're picky about audio fidelity or want to use this mostly for surface driving in a quiet car, you might be disappointed with the sound. Overall, I'd recommend this to anyone who doesn't want to have to shuffle CDs on a long drive and can't afford a nicer setup. For the money, I feel this is a good buy.

Works well in a car Jan 20, 2010
By Thomas Sprague

I was looking for an inexpensive solution to use a FM Transmitter in conjunction with a MP3 player. This was the most inexpensive solution I found. Most were 3 times the cost of this. When I first plugged it in my computer to down load songs it would not recognize the device. Second time it recognized the device and I was able to down load (not sure what the reason for this was, bad connection etc).
In a noisy car or on my Honda Goldwing motorcycle it is exactly what I was looking for. I tried to use it in the house and pick up on my stereo. I do not recommend using it in the house. There is a lot of static you can hear in the quiet house but not when traveling in a noisy car or motorbike. The added plug on the side allows you to use an Ipod or another MP3 player. After loading 2 Gb of songs I found I did not need to use an external MP3 player.
Drawbacks I note are the songs loaded to the device play in order of loading. No jumping around. There is a skip or back button to navigate through songs but it is not quick to skip around. Solution is to load what you want to hear.
All in all this is a great device for the price.

Disappointing Feb 19, 2011
By A. Petrovato This thing is supposed to allow me to play my regular mp3 player on my car's radio. It came with a very low quality wire to connect the 1/8" headphone output from my mp3 player to CarTunes. The connection was spotty at first, and then the wire's connector fell apart, leaving the tiny white and red wires inside showing. So much for that option. I am left now with only the capability to play music that I've loaded onto the CarTune's 2GB built-in memory. That would be a wonderfully generous amount of memory if it were possible to make playlists on this thing. However, the only way to control the order of the songs you hear is by manually clicking and dragging the songs in the desired order from your PC/laptop or whatever onto the CarTunes. Also, the unit will play your list of songs from the beginning every time you power it up. This means that if you drive for 15 minutes, shut off your car, then return to your car for another 15 minute drive, you will hear the same songs on each drive. What use can 2GB of memory be when I'm never going to hear past song #10 or so on my player? The display is far to small and dim to be read while I'm driving, even after I removed the plastic dome covering the display. I'd use it on a road trip I suppose, but for daily use it's a huge disappointment.
