For the gym..... Perfect!!!... For every day use.... Not so sure Aug 17, 2010
By K. Gray -------------- Update: Yes... This thing did last me a year, even after being washed and dried! This is a great buy.
-------------- The Eclipse is very light weight and obscure, had it not been for the headphones I would have forgotten that the thing was even clipped on to my shorts. Sound Quality is average, with some features that allow you to tweak the sound quality. I would definitely recommend using higher quality headphones. Even if you own an older pair of headphones they will probably sound better than the ones that are provided in the package. If this thing last me a year I will be more than happy.
Pros: - The Eclipse to Computer interface is very straight-forward, simply plug the Eclipse into your laptop or desktop and drag and drop your music files onto the device. That's it... nothing fancy at all. - Ultra Light - Simple LCD Screen provides basic Information.
Cons: - Controls are not necessarily intuitive - Doesn't support DRM (I am not talking about itunes) - There is no way that I have found that allows you to jump from one folder to another. Instead, You have to click the next button until you reach the song you are looking for. So if you have 300 songs on the eclipse and want to listen to song #213, you have to click the --> button 213 times... very annoying. I worked around this by putting a small gym workout folder with about 25 songs.
Tips: - IMPORTANT... In order to charge this thing, the power switch must be in the "ON" position. If not, the device will not charge. You may think this is obvious, but the device lights up like it is charging even when it is in the "OFF" position making you think that device is charging.
Update... you also have to turn the thing into the "off" position for it to be really off. Again... sounds obvious but the device will shut down the screen in the "on" position when no music is playing for more than a few minutes.

Inexpensive... and you sort of get what you pay for Apr 17, 2011
By E. Walker The functionality of the buttons on this is not intuitive at all, but once you figure it out it works OK.
For example, if you browse to a different folder, once you get to the folder of music you want to hear, you push the "M" button twice and NOT the play button. Whose brilliant idea was that ? I bought this to give to my mom (who is well into her 70s) so that kind of complicated gadgetry really isn't cool for a senior citizen. I don't know how similar cheapie MP3 players function, but I guess I'm about to find out. I've been using a 30g Creative Labs MP3 player for years.... but it is big and expensive. Also the maximum volume on this is still not really loud (but OK for a senior citizen).
On the positive side......this only cost about $15. You can probably fit about 20-30 albums on it. It does not require DRM, iTunes or any nonsense like an iPod. Load music with simple windows drag and drop functionality. It is very light, and quite small... only a bit larger than an iPod shuffle. It is a cute silvery purple. Included are some cheap headphones and a USB cable. Obviously if you want better sound, you'll get better headphones, but they'll do in a pinch.

Good for music, bad for Audio Books Jan 02, 2011
By Peter I lost my previous mp3 player and needed something to listen to audio books on, so I picked this up because it was cheap. This is a good MP3 player for normal music in general, but not for audio books.
Pro's: -Plays MP3's fine -Relatively inexpensive -Battery life is around 4 or 5 hours, which is ok and it charges quickly.
Con's: -If you are listening to a long file, which with audio books is common, and then turn it off or plug it in it will lose your place. Normally it keeps track of how far into the file I was on but sets the current file to the first one on the device. This can get very annoying if your battery runs out in the middle of a file, you recharge for a while expecting to get back into the book only to find out you have to skip forward five files and fast forward 50 minutes into a one hour file just to get back to where you were... -Fast forwarding... you can only fast forward and rewind within a single file. So to get to 50 minutes into a 60 minute file I can't jump to the next one and go rewind into the previous one, it just gets stuck at the beginning and won't go anywhere... Also the fast forward button is touchy. If you aren't careful you will remove a little to much pressure and mp3 player will start playing only to jump to the next track almost immediately... very annoying when you have already spent the last 10 minutes fast forwarding to get back to your place
It got to the point where when my wife asked me how much longer I wanted to stay up I would say, "10 minutes or 70 minutes", since I didn't want to stop using it without being at the end of a file.

Don't waste your money Aug 28, 2010
By C. T. Spruell I brought this player because I messed up the headphone jack to my phone. AT first I thought I had something here, but only to find out I just wasted my money. The option to play music randomly is not good. You could hear the same song twice in one sitting. If you skipped songs, then it feels like it'll play the same set of songs over and over again. It's hard to hear your favorite songs when you're stuck listening to the same ones.
And to talk about volume. I have pretty good headphones, but it seems as if every time I turn the player up, it'll sound loud, then mere seconds later it sounds low again. 20 sounds like 22 sounds like 24 sounds like 18. And whatever volume you turn it off at will mess up the player because that volume will sound really low next time you turn the player on. This player cannot support sound.
And the battery life is a joke. I can charge this thing for hours but still have 2 out of 3 bars of battery. after listening to two songs straight the battery is already down. And sometimes when you hook it up the display will be stuck on an image. when this happens it's not even charging.
I know this product is cheap, cheaper than the ipod, but if that's what you were aiming for, then this product isn't for you. I would give this to the kids as their first mp3 experience, but for those who what more bang for your buck, I'd suggest investing in something a lot better.

Too darn quiet Mar 01, 2010
By T. Sandy It's way too quiet even at its highest volume setting. And speaking of settings; they're completely not intuitive to use. The manual is also useless. I had to google how to turn up the volume. And like I said, even at full it was much too quiet.
