| | Description | Instead of struggling to reach your computer's ports on the back, wouldn't it be nice to connect your speakers or microphone to the front? This simple adapter adds a microphone-in and an audio-out port to your computer through a USB port. It's a great way to connect peripherals whose cords aren't long enough to reach around the back of your PC. Eliminates the need for a traditional sound card. | |

Adapts the 360 turtle beach X11 headset into a PS3 headset. Mar 03, 2011
By Dagtastic I bought this so that I could use a Turtle Beach Headset X11(360/PC) with my PS3. And it works fine. Mic goes into the USB adapter, and the RCA's go to the PS3 RCA jack and boom one gaming headset for for all of your consoles.

OK for telephony - too distorted for music Dec 22, 2007
By Isaac G. Maxson
"Isaac"
The human voice has a limited audio frequency range ; music may range from 10 to 30000 Hertz. I had hoped this tiny USB device could do yeoman's work connecting to self-powered external speakers. Nope ~ guess again, dude. I have requested an RMA from the Amazon Seller; they have obliged. Next, from reading reviews on the big A, I am going with the Griffin iMic USB adapter. Even an audio pro gives it very high marks.
I never tried this adapter for telephone applications; I bet it will work just fine for the price. In fact, my seller's ad copy only talks about this particular use.
Like they say, you get what you pay for.

Almost perfect Oct 24, 2007
By Dante E. Svensson I got this great device because my two year old Sony Vaio FS series notebook has an unfortunate defect: the headphone jack is very sensitive and easily damaged since it is placed on the front end of the pc. At first i bought a usb headphone but I found it quite uncomfortable, so when I found this adapter while surfing amazon I immediately decided to give it a try. I have to say i'm very happy with it. I can finally connect my favorite headphones and my hi-fi speakers to my pc, and the sound is spectacular (it actually gets much louder than what my computer's inbuilt sound card would allow). However there is one slight problem with it that can be annoying at times: the plastic casing of the adapter separates relatively easily after some time (happened the first time after about 2-3 weeks of use). It is easy to put back together and the function of the adapter is in no way hindered, but like i said, it can be annoying. Overall still a great product for an amazing price. Highly recommended!
UPDATE (03/10/08): A few days ago it just stopped working, actually it can work, but you have to plug it in about a million times to get it to work, and if you move your computer it will stop working again. I guess for the price I paid ($4.00) that's expected, but now it $20. Anyway if you need a USB sound card just get a Griffin iMic, it costs a little more but it's definitely worth it.

Worthless on a Mac Dec 16, 2007
By J. Rice If you want extra audio for a Mac, don't buy this. The system recognizes it, but the volume control is useless and all you get is severely distorted sound regardless of settings.

Spend It Somewhere Else Mar 12, 2008
By G. Cantara I've had 2 of these. The first one I bought, I put it in the usb slot and then opened up a music file. The volume was so high, the sound was completely distorted and unlistenable. There was no way to control the volume. It was either on full blast, or it was off. I was disappointed, but it had cost so little, I just chalked it up to a failed experiment (I was dubious about the quality because of the cost). I pulled it out of the slot and threw it in a drawer. Then I was invited to leave feedback, I'm not sure by whom, the company or Amazon. So I left it, stating that that the thing was a piece of junk. Not long after, the company contacted me, offering to ship me another adapter free of charge if I removed my negative feedback. I didn't really want another one of these, but I thought, What the heck. Maybe that first one was just defective. I did warn the company that if I wasn't satisfied, I'd leave another bad review. So I get the second one and while it's not as bad as the first, it still sounds like garbage, with a buzzing hiss that really spoils the quality of music. So I plucked it out of the slot and threw it in the drawer with the other one, and now I'm writing this review, as promised. I only tried this adaptor because of the great reviews here. I'm not sure what's different about the items I got, and the ones that satisfied the other reviewers here. But I say, Spend your ten bucks on a different adapter if you want to listen to music; this one doesn't cut it.
