Meets all my expectations Jan 08, 2011 By Aventinus
The previous review have said it isn't perfectly clear, so I knew what I was getting into when I purchase this.
And I still like it. Now the bumper isn't entirely white. The part of it that covers the metal band is clear, only the parts covering the front and back are frosted. And that's what it is, frosted plastic, translucent, not white. So if you have a white iPhone like in the picture, it would look fine. I have a black one and it doesn't look bad either.

One of the things I wary about when buy a case is the plastic being too hard. This means when dust inevitably gets between the device and the case, it will scratch the device. (Now given the surfaces in question here are metal and glass, that risk is lowered) but the plastic is plyable, not hard rigid plastic. This means the dust won't be ground into the surfaces and chances of scratching for further reduced. It's rigid enough to hold it's shape but it's not completely soft like silicone. And not as tacky and dust attracting either. Though I predict a very decent amount of pocket lint to get between the bumper and the phone.

I like that it isn't flush with the surface of the phone. The bumper extends out 2mm above the surface on both sides of the phone, so that mean when you lay it down, the back or front of the phone isn't touching anything, which is a GOOD thing, prevents scratches.

Couple this with some film protectors on the front and back you have something that offer intermediate protection while still keeping the sleek look. No you won't be able to drop it out a 4th story window like you can with the Otter Box. But then again, it still looks like an iPhone and not a rubber encased ammo box. And I didn't find the screen protectors made the bumper over tight. Then again I got this crappy thing protector, so....

As for some folks saying the case is difficult to put on, that just means it's a good fit for the phone. Install by getting three corners of the phone in first and then pull around the fourth corner. It shouldn't be too difficult and you get a snug fit.

The opening for the charging port and speaker are perfectly sized. The headphone jacks and sleep button are also well placed, but also a little on the large side. Especially the headphone hole, because it's one large hole for both the headphone jack and the noise cancellation mic. The hole for the vibration toggle is also oversized, but should be clear as to why it needs to be. The volume button are actually cover, with what looks almost like blister buttons for pushing them. Pushing is a little difficult, but I won't be adjusting those too much anyway....

Finally the microsim opening is covered by the bumper, but then again I won't be using that, ever, anyway.

Overall I am very pleased with this product. When I lay my phone flat, it the surface won't be scratched. It looks like it will protect my phone from low level drops. And the final look is still pretty sleek. Everything I was looking for in a phone. Well worth the low price. 4 stars, because even though I knew what I was getting into with the frosted look, this band would be that much most awesome if it was indeed completely clear.

Or if I had a white iPhone.

Solid investment. I got this bumper to essentially hold me until Apple sends my free, expensive case weeks later. I really felt I needed something because the glass back on iPhone 4 seems really fragile. I ordered the CLEAR bumper, which I was excited about because I really wanted to preserve the iPhone 4 look as much as possible, but when I received my order I got a WHITE bumper. I really don't care for white cases because they get really dirty, but since I only spent 4-5 bucks altogether on this, it was hardly worth the trouble of returning it. It definitely seems like a solid enough case for what I paid and it shipped and arrived quickly (but I still wish it was clear as advertised). It does not, however, "cover" the back of the phone. I'm not sure what the previous reviewer is referring to.

*EDIT* Having seen a phone with the Apple bumper, I now understand the previous reviewer's comment. This bumper keeps the back from hitting when you set it down on the table. Apple ones are flush to the back so the back hits when you set it down.

The product received wasn't clear as shown on the picture. If you're expecting anything clear, do not order the product. The seller also refused to pay for the return shipping for the item, so do not purchase from Media-Mart.

It is not "clear" is it frosty white. It is not soft, nor "gel" like at all. It is fairly rigid and a pain to put on. If you have a screen protector of any sorts it will pull up the corners when you manage to get it on. Not good. Whatever it is made of does not seem to offer any protection in the case of a drop. Buyer beware, better yet, buyer RUN AWAY!

I ordered it about a month ago and have yet to receive it. Don't think i ever will... :(
There's no way to track either. If you're willing to lose a couple of bucks and it's not a big deal then no worries.
