5Great Music Player  Jul 24, 2010 By Guy
I chose the 3cam over the regular 3 vision because of hopes that the camera and photo would be worth having. Even though I haven't had much use for it so far, having the ability to put my favorite shows on it is great. The screen has a great picture and the music sounds great, having the radio is a huge plus too. I have not had any problems with the transmitter being weak like some other people have stated, you just have to tune it correctly. I would recommend it for anyone looking for something different than an Ipod. The only downside I can honestly say is the lack of info they give you from the directions on how to use it, but for avg. tech people its no problem.

3Quirky But Worth The Price  Oct 07, 2010 By micolli
This Archos unit takes some patience in getting used to it's quirky functions but once mastered, I'd recommend it. However, if your main purpose is to use the FM transmitter to play through your car you will be disappointed. Sometimes it plays OK, other times it has interference that makes it unuseable and yes, I know the headset must be plugged in and volumes need to be tweaked. Just not what I expected. Other than that I like it's sound and the display is very good. It took awhile to figure out how to download custom playlists but now that is fine. In doing this I suggest simply bypassing the Windows Media Player and work solely out of your "My Music" files. Just open "My Music" and copy and paste into a folder you create on the Archos.

4Good value set of features  Jul 23, 2010 By j-thor
I really like the set of features this offers in a compact package with reasonable price. The little manual that comes with it doesn't do it justice; there are more capabilities that you can discover on your own or in the right forums. It amazes me on how well the little thing can play movies, and of course I expected it's great performance on various music formats.

Some features only seem to have the most basic functionality, like the microphone and FM transmitter seem weak, and the camera/video taking isn't terribly sharp. And it can be hard at times to navigate audio books. But maybe I haven't gotten it tuned up optimally... I found right away that some of the default settings were directed toward another continent. Pretty happy for the price though.

2returned ours for refund  Oct 26, 2010 By The "pawilh"
I was initially very excited in purchasing the Archos 3Cam Vision, replacing a similar Meisu MP3 player that had recently failed. One of the key features I wanted in a replacement though was the audio/video recorder function, which I had intended to use to make informal videos at school events and such, without incurring the expense of buying both an mp3 player AND a small video camera.

I've been through two of these units now though, both apparently having the same defect right out of the box.

When recording A/V, regardless of the resolution (quality setting) of the video, the audio lags the video by 1-2s in the resultant .asf file. Watching the video on the player, or converted into an .avi on a desktop PC, it plays out like one of those badly dubbed kungfu movies, where the actor's voices don't match up with their mouths. It's quite noticeable.

I played around with various settings on the first unit for days, as well as contacting Archos for tech support--their advice was to return the unit to Amazon.

Second unit, also NIB, arrived with the same 1-2s audio lag problem, AND a motor-boating noise I could hear in the recorded audio. Contacted Archos again to see if they had a firmware patch. NOPE.

Amazon, although they have been great over the years and have NEVER fouled up any of our orders, also sent me the wrong color units twice, grey, not black as per the description.

Bottom line, while it seems to play mp3's ok, and the user interface is ok, the model has buggy firmware, does not meet Archos' own advertised spec for A/V recording, and factory support on the device was lacking.

5great player, don't buy it for the camera  Feb 06, 2011 By cholley
the Archos 3cam player works quite well at it's core functions, don't be foolish and buy it for the camera, the camera is on par with early camera phones, you need lots of light to get a good picture, i have read another review that the purchaser was disappointed that it wasn't camcorder quality, it's just a goofy feature kid's might get use out of.

the player is nice and light, very slim and looks well built, video files play well and the screen is good and bright, i will be buying a second one for the wife.

i use my player daily working out and for videos while traveling
